Lyrids/Kyklos Folk Dance Dance Festival 2021 is a collaboration between Lyrids & Kyklos Folk Dancers. April 23-25, dance in your own home using Zoom.
In the mornings, Tineke and Maurits van Geel are our featured teachers. In the afternoons enjoy a variety of workshops. And in the evenings are parties! Saturday evening, enjoy live music with Osem i Devet + Friends.

The festival is free to attend. However, all donations are used to top up payments to the presenters. There are incentives for that!

2021 Lyrids Meteor Shower
In 2021, the Lyrids will peak on the night between Apr 21–22. The Lyrids are created by debris from comet Thatcher, which takes about 415 years to orbit around the Sun.
Considered to be the oldest known meteor shower, the Lyrids are named after constellation Lyra. The radiant point of the shower, the point in the sky where the meteors seem to emerge from, lies near the star Vega, one of the brightest stars in the sky during this time of the year.
Video Policy
The festival will be video-recorded. The recordings will be available for download for anyone who has donated above $40.

The Lyrids Folk Dance Festival
In-Person Experience!
Duration, date, location:
- Friday, Saturday, Sunday in late April (Lyrids Meteor Shower)
- South Vancouver – sprung floor, accommodates 100 dancers
- Easy drive to Vancouver Island and Gulf Island Ferries
- Easy drive to US border
- Accommodation nearby – B&B, hotel, motel
- Shopping nearby – Oakridge, Little India
Instruction:
- Two teachers, alternating workshops
- A few dances at the Friday party
- AM and PM sessions on Saturday and on Sunday
- Some drumming, singing, accordion, ensemble optional workshops
- Cultural hour after Saturday PM teaching by one or both teachers
Catering:
- Usually a non-profit social enterprise company, providing some dishes in line with the featured culture(s)
- Saturday lunch and dinner, Sunday lunch
- Snacks provided by the festival and by clubs whose members volunteer to provide some treats
- Coffee and Tea throughout the festival
Parties:
- Friday Night: recorded music
- Registrants vote for their favourite from a list
- Registrants can add their own favourites to the list
- The most popular are used throughout the festival: break times and parties
- Saturday Night: live music
- Folk dance band from the US
- Teachers leading dances learned by the band for the party
- Prior to the party – local folk groups provide some entertainment
- Sunday Night: Dale Adamson’s house (Surrey)
- Dinner
- Recorded music
